Powys Children & Young Peoples' Plan

Youth Friendly Version of the Draft Single Plan

The government have said that every county in Wales must make a plan for how we are going to improve the lives of children and young people. This plan must line up with, and build on the 7 core aims for all children and young people in and the 10 entitlements which apply to every young person (11 – 25) in Wales.

Any way, the ‘Children and Young People’s Partnership’ (All the organisations and departments that deliver services to children and young people together ) have looked at all of the evidence and found that there are some areas where we need to focus our work to help improve outcomes for children and young people in Powys.

The Vision:

“We want children and young people living in Powys to reach their full potential by having access to the services they need and that those services value and respect them (and their parents and their carers) and promote their health, wellbeing, learning and development. “

We want you to be involved in the design of the plans as much as possible, so we have produced a draft with some questions at the end. We really value your opinion and views so please click here, have a read and put down your opinions at the end and send them in. If you put your contact details down (they will be treated seperately and  in confidence) we will draw 3 names out of the hat in April and send them an iPod.

Powys Youth Forum & Funky Dragon

Funky Dragon - the Children and Young People's Assembly for Wales - is a peer-led organisation. Our aim is to give 0 - 25 year olds the opportunity to get their voices heard on issues that affect them. The opportunity to participate and be listened to is a fundamental right under the United Nations Convention Rights of the Child. Funky Dragon will try to represent as wide a range as possible and work with decision-makers to achieve change.

Funky Dragon's main tasks are to make sure that the views of children and young people are heard, particularly by the Welsh Assembly Government, and to support participation in decision-making at national level.

Each of Wales' Local Authorities Youth Forums/councils are asked to nominate and send 3 representatives (for a 2 year term) to funky dragon's residentials. Powys' 3 representatives take forward issues on behalf of Powys to be discussed at an all Wales level.

Volunteering Abroad

UNA Exchange is a registered charity that works through networks of organisations worldwide, ensuring that the projects to which they send volunteers are truly local community projects. The majority of the opportunities do not require special skills or experience - enthusiasm and a desire to learn about other places, people and cultures are the only requirements. Volunteers pay a placement fee of around £130 to UNA Exchange and cover their own travel costs but there are no 'hidden extras'.
