Wales' public places are going to be smoke free. Good news
for those who don't fancy being smothered in eau-de-ashtray
on a bit night out, but bad news for those being shoved

Funky Dragon is undertaking a new project to
find out the extent to which young people in Wales are
accessing their rights under the UN Convention on the
Rights of the Child. They are using workshops together with
a national survey to consult with over 8,000 young people.
The resulting report will be submitted to the
UN.

UNA Exchange is a registered charity that
works through networks of organisations worldwide, ensuring
that the projects to which they send volunteers are truly
local community projects. The majority of the opportunities do not
require special skills or experience - enthusiasm and a
desire to learn about other places, people and cultures are
the only requirements. Volunteers pay a placement fee of
around £130 to UNA Exchange and cover their own travel
costs but there are no 'hidden extras'.

Refugee Week is an annual UK-wide festival
of arts, cultural and educational events and will take
place from 18th to 24th June 2007. It provides a platform
to promote positive images of refugees in order to create a
culture of welcome throughout the
country
The Refugee Week Wales
Art Competition, funded by Save the Children Cymru, invites
young people across Wales to design an image which
represents refugee issues and also reflects the ways that
different people and communities can come together
positively.
The entries are split
into two categories: Age 11 and Under and Ages 12-16. The
winner of each category will receive £75 prize money
and runners up will receive £25. The overall winner of
the competition will receive £1,000 for their school
or youth organisation.
This is a fantastic
opportunity for you to explore issues of asylum with your
young people and for them to gain a greater understanding
about the reasons why people seek asylum and the
contributions they make to UK society.
The closing date for
this competition is 4th May 2007. Entries should be
returned to the address below and marked 'Refugee Week
Wales Art Competition 2007.' The winning images will be
used in Refugee Week Wales in the future and will feature
on information leaflets and the website.
